Police Launches School Protection Squad In Kano State

The Police in Kano State Northwest Nigeria has launched a 60-man School Protection Squad with the sole objective of providing a safe environment for Schooling.

Launching the squad at the Police Headquarters in Bompai Kano, the Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Gumel said that It was the initiative of the Inspector General of Police Kayode Ebegtokun designed to protect both the schools, students, and institutional infrastructure.

Gumel noted that the 60-man School Protection Squad were carefully selected and specially trained personnel as well as provided with the necessary kids and tools to face any security challenge in schools.

The Kano CP explained that “the personnel from today be dispatched to intensify robust patrols around all primary and secondary schools, including all vulnerable institutions in all locations across each senatorial district.”

Meanwhile, the Kano State Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Gumel has also unveiled achievements made by the command since his assumption one year ago.

According to him, the command has arrested 337 Armed Robbery suspects, 66, suspected Kidnappers, 90 suspected drug dealers, 83 vehicle thieves, and 62 Tricycle thieves.

Other suspects according to CP Gumel include 2,101 thugs, 86 motorcycle thieves, and 61 Fraudsters among others.
CP Gumel who highlighted several recoveries made by the Kano Police Command said, 54 locally made guns, 8 AK-47 Rifles, 44 Dane guns, 5 English Pistols, 83 live Ammunition, and 30 cartridges were recovered.

He said the Command within the year has recovered 215 Motor Vehicles, 84 Tricycles, 116 Motorcycles, and 3,079 Mobile phones.

“990 cartons of fake and expired drugs, 159, Cattles 105 sheep, 74 bags, 2061 parcels, 3, 756 Wraps of dried leaves suspected to Indian Hemp, 2823 ATM Cards, and 4,026 pieces of women’s wrappers have been recovered.”

CP Gumel stressed that the command was able to rescue 65 Trafficking victims and 29 Kidnapping victims.

He noted that the achievements were recorded through robust community policing approaches and improved public relations mechanisms with the community.

As a result of employing these approaches, the command received and profiled a total a total of 623 repentant thugs, took them off the streets and currently transitioning them away from life of crime,” he said.

The Kano Police Boss noted that the command has arrested and prosecuted over 3,000 suspected criminals and charged them with offenses ranging from kidnapping, Banditry, Armed Robbery, Human Trafficking, drug dealing, and thuggery.

CP Gumel also presented a police magazine containing its activities to the public.
