Political Stalwart Backs Constitutional Review In Nigeria

An aspirant for the ticket for All Progressives Congress, APC, for Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representative, Adesola Elegbeji, has thrown her weight behind the ongoing 1999 Constitution Review embarked up by the National Assembly.

Speaking while delivering a lecture at the 2025 Retreat For Remo Traditional Council In Sagamu, Elegbeji explained that the proposed electoral reforms ahead of 2027 elections would strengthen transparency and credibility.

She said sustainable progress demanded the strengthening of democratic institutions, the promotion of inclusive economic growth, enhanced accountability, and effective management of security challenges.

Elegbeji who was delivering a paper on “The Political Climate in Nigeria: Challenges, Dynamics, and Prospect” said resilience and dedication exhibited by Nigerians offer optimism in the face of ongoing issues.

“These key issues, however are beginning to witness positive reforms. Although in the last general elections, low voters turnout and apathy reached a historic low of about 27%, indicating widespread disillusionment fuelled by dissipation of confidence in the system.

“The proposed electoral reforms ahead of 2027 elections will strengthen transparency and credibility in the process.

“Results transmission mechanisms, BVAS, electoral offenses commission, party regulatory agency and other electoral acts contents that have caused confusion and legal disputes in the past are undergoing a lasting rectification” She said.

Elegbeji advocated political reforms, uphold justice and to also urged political leaders to ignite on the potential that lies within every Nigerian.

“Our leaders are being called upon to reform, to uphold justice, and to ignite the potential that lies within every Nigerians.

“As we move forward, let us embrace the lessons of our history, the strength of our unity in diversity, and the hope that springs from the courage of our people. The future of Nigeria is not just in the hands of a few—it belongs to all of us. Together, we can build a nation worthy of our dreams” She said.

Her paper highlighted the tremendous and growing changes in the political climate of the nation, which is shaped by a rich tapestry of ethnicities, religious and historical influences.

On their part, the traditional fathers, including the Akarigbo, Elepe, Ologijo, and others reiterated Elegbeji’s brilliance, oratory prowess, and passion for the greatness of Remoland.

They recalled her philanthropic works through the “Ayoola Elegbeji Foundation”to hundreds of beneficiaries throughout their respective kingdoms.

They prayed for her and wished her well in her quest to represent Remo in the Nigerian House of Representatives.

The event, chaired by His Royal Majesty,, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Kingdom, was attended by over forty Remo traditional rulers as well as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas.
