Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel arrived early in various polling units in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, in North Central Nigeria, for today’s (Saturday) Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.
Reports from Kwara North and Kwara South Senatorial Districts also indicate that the election processes have been smooth and orderly.
INEC officials and security personnel arrived as early as 06:30 hrs GMT (07:30am) in most of the polling booths visited.
They arrived with all the materials needed for the conduct of the election.
Accreditation of voters and voting started at 07:30 hrs GMT simultaneously across numerous polling units, with the reconfigured Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices working well without incident.
This is unlike what happened during the Presidential and National Assembly elections three weeks ago.
A cross section of voters who spoke with Voice of Nigeria correspondents commended INEC and Security arrangements put in place so far.
Before Saturday’s elections, various political parties and their stakeholders went into alliance and realignment to shore-up electoral victory for their candidate in today’s polls.
