Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has named seven Ministerial nominees, and he is requesting the senate to confirm their appointments.

The Ministerial nominees are Henry Iko from Abia State; Umana Okon from Akwa Ibom State, Ekuma Joseph from Ebonyi State, and Goodluck Opia from Imo State.

Others are; Umar El-Yakub from Kano State, Ademola Adegoroye from Ondo State, and Odum Odi from Rivers State.

The Nomination of the Ministers was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Nigerian senate Dr. Ahmad Lawan, which he read on the floor of the senate.

According to President Buhari, as stated in the letter, the confirmation request was in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.

The nominees, when screened and confirmed by the Senate, would replace some ministers who resigned their appointments to contest the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential primary election held recently.

Those who resigned their appointments to contest for the Presidenctial flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress were Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu from Abia State; Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Emeka Nwajuba (Imo) and Rotimi Amaechi from Rivers State.

Minority Leadership

Meanwhile the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has appointed Senators Phillip Aduda (FCT) and Chukwuka Utazi (Enugu North) as the new Minority Leader and Minority Whip of the main opposition party.

The nominations were contained in a letter signed by the National Secretary of PDP, Senator Sam Anyanwu and read by the Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Senator Aduda’s nomination was sequel to the resignation of the former Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who is contesting for the Govership position in Abia state in south east Nigeria.

Senator Abaribe, last week, formally announced his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

The PDP in its letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, explained that Senator Utazi’s nomination as the new Minority Whip, was as a result of the elevation of Senator Aduda to the position of Minority Leader.
