President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.
The appointment makes Dr Odusote the first female to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.
A statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, announcing Odusote’s appointment, stated that the appointment, which takes effect from 10 January 2026, is for a four-year term.
Dr Odusote, who is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on 9 January 2026, after eight years in office.
At 54, Odusote brings more than two decades of experience within the Nigerian Law School system. She joined the institution in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, serving in key positions including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.
She later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law, before earning a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.
Odusote has also had international academic exposure, having served briefly as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
