President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the publisher and iconic journalist, Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu on his 90th milestone.
President Tinubu in a personally signed congratulatory message on Friday hailed the doyen of journalism profession as a shining example of dedication, resilience and integrity within the media industry.
Extolling Prince Amuka-Pemu’s mentorship in the pen profession, the President said his leadership has influenced the media landscape and showcased his role as a respected leader in Delta State and the South-South geopolitical zone, portraying him as an elder statesman.
“Today, I celebrate Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, iconic journalist and publisher of Vanguard newspaper, on his 90th birthday.
“Fondly called Uncle Sam, Amuka-Pemu started his career at the Daily Times. Then, he co-founded The Punch with the late accountant Chief Olu Aboderin. After parting ways with Aboderin, he set up the Vanguard newspaper in 1984, which became one of Nigeria’s most influential newspapers under his leadership.”
President Tinubu lauded the publisher of one of Nigeria’s most widely read tabloids, applauding his lifelong dedication to journalism.
He acknowledged that it is due to the publisher’s commitment and exceptional leadership skills that Vanguard Newspaper continues to thrive 41 years after its establishment, despite the difficulties facing the media industry in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Leader urged younger generations of journalists to emulate the highly respected publisher and leader.

In a profound recognition of his significant contributions to the country and his exemplary leadership in the field of journalism, President Tinubu on the occassion of the june 12, 2025 democracy day conferred the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON on Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu.
The President wish the elder statesman continued God’s grace and more years of impact while expressing the nation’s appreciation for his invaluable contributions to journalism and his enduring legacy.
