President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, to enhance potable water distribution across the Federal Capital Territory.
Commissioning the Water Project in Abuja on Monday, President Tinubu described the water initiative as a transformative project that enhanced national development agenda.

He lauded the partnership between the administration of the Federal Capital Territory and the Chinese government.
In his remarks, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, appreciated the President for the continual support given to the Federal Capital Territory, FCTA.
He recounted the President’s experience in 2023, on water supply to the city of Abuja, and disclosed that the contract was awarded 2017 at the cost $420M under the partnership of African Development Initiative with China,to take care of loop 1,2,5 and 6.
Minister Wike also revealed that China provided 85 percent of the project while Nigeria completed the remaining cost.
“We want to thank you that under this administration this job has been completed and it is being commissioned today.
He further disclosed that procurement process for distribution of water to the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory, such as Bwari, Karu and kubwa” The Minister said.
This initiative is among several projects the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by Minister Nyesom Wike, is commissioning over 19 days to mark President Tinubu’s second year in office.
Water project
The Greater Abuja Water Supply Project is a major infrastructure development aimed at significantly improving access to safe and clean drinking water for residents of Abuja.
The water project involves the construction of four pipeline loops that will increase the city’s water supply capacity by 480,000 cubic meters per day, raising the total capacity from 240,000 to 720,000 cubic meters daily.
This expansion is designed to serve approximately 2.5 million residents across about 50 districts in the FCT, including 50 estates and mass housing schemes in phases III and IV of the city
The project also supports sustainable development by enabling existing water plants to operate at maximum capacity, reducing resource waste, and fostering local employment and skill development.
