President Tinubu relieves CEOs of two regulatory agencies

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Mr.  Babatunde Irukera, to vacate their offices and hand over to the most senior officers.

This was conveyed on Monday in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The president said this was part of a wider reforms of the polity; “in conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions“.

Former President Buhari  renewed  the appointment of Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises on 10th April 2021, for a second 5-year term.

The BPE  is an agency charged with economic reforms especially the privatization & commercialization of government-owned enterprises in the country. It also serves as the secretariat of the National Council on Privatization.

Meanwhile, the dismissed Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission was appointed to supervise the transition of the commission on January 30th, 2019.
