President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar as National Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and read during Tuesday’s plenary session.
“In compliance with the provisions of section 154 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq (retired) as Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously, please accept, Mr Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration,” President Tinubu stated.
Following the reading of the letter, Senator Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on INEC for further legislative scrutiny, directing it to report back to plenary within one week.
In a separate correspondence, President Tinubu also sought the Senate’s confirmation of Ambassador Ismail Yusuf for appointment as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
