Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on Wednesday, approved the indefinite suspension of the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa, to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
According to a statement by the Director of Information at the Office to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, this follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services invited Bawa after his suspension and he arrived at their office on Wednesday evening.

Bawa’s Background
Abdulrasheed Bawa was born in 1980 and hails from Jega, Kebbi State
He joined the EFCC as an Assistant Detective Superintendent (ADS) in 2004.
Bawa was nominated as substantive Chairman of the EFCC on 16 February 2021, and on 24 February 2021 he was confirmed by the National Assembly as the Executive Chairman, officially taking over from the Mr Ibrahim Magu, the former acting Chairman of the Commission
He was trained by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
