President Tinubu Suspends Rural Electrification CEO Indefinitely

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, alongside three other Executive Directors over the fraudulent mis-expenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion.

The President has also ordered a full-scale investigation into the conduct of the officials.

These were made known in a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday.

Other Directors suspended indefinitely by the President are Executive Directors of Corporate Services, Olaniyi Alaba Netufo, Executive Director, Technical Services Barka Sajou, and Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Sa’adatu Belgore.

“Furthermore, President Tinubu has ordered a wider investigation into the conduct of the aforementioned officials in a fraudulent misexpenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion over the past two years, some of which has already been recovered by anti-graft agencies,” the statement read.

New Appointments

The statement further added that President Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the new Managing Director and CEO of the Rural Electrification Capacity.

Others appointed to serve in different capacities are Ayoade Gboyega; Executive Director, Corporate Services, Umar Abdullahi Umar; Executive Director, Technical Services and Doris Uboh; Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund (REF).

Also appointed to serve as the Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project is Olufemi Akinyelure.

The newly appointees are therefore to serve in acting capacities with immediate effect.
