Primaries: Enugu State women demand 35% affirmative action

Enugu women numbering about a hundred on Friday paid governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi a courtesy call and urged him to use his power and ensure the implementation of the 35% affirmative action on women during the primary election which is scheduled to hold from May 21 till May 29, 2022.

The women, representing different organisations and led by Mrs. Onyinye Mamah thanked the Governor for running a women inclusive government but asked that eight out of the twenty four seats in the state house of assembly be given to women during the party primaries.

Responding, the Governor said: “You know that my administration is one of the most women friendly governments anyone could think of”.

The governor also advised the women to urge their various aspirants to go into the field and begin to meet with stakeholders and make their intentions known.

The governor however sought to know if any aspirant had accompanied them for the visit.

Aspirants present were Mrs Amaka Nweke – State House of Assembly ,Enugu East urban, Ms Sarah Adaobi Chukwu- State House of Assembly ,Nkanu east, Princess Nneka Philips- Federal House of Representatives Enugu North/South Federal Constituencies. Another is Mrs Chizoba Nnamdi-Ezemagu State House of Assembly Igbo-Etiti West Constituency.

While the following aspirants sent representatives Hon Mrs Chinwe Mba- State House,Igboetiti, Edith Ugwuanyi- Fed House of rep Igboeze South, Hon Chidinma Offiah- State House of Assembly, Enugu South Urban constituency.

The governor then advised and encouraged them to meet with the stakeholders in the constituencies where they are aspiring to represent.
