The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has received a significant boost in its drive to complete its ultramodern Congress Hall project, following the donation of 600 bags of cement by indigenous firm Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited.
The materials were handed over at a brief ceremony in Abuja, supervised by Arc. Junias John Akaito and Kolade Oluwajuwon Olaoye, where the company delivered the first tranche of 300 bags of cement, marking a major milestone in the Council’s efforts to provide a befitting facility for journalists in the nation’s capital.
Receiving the donation, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, commended the Chief Executive Officer of Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited, Dr Christian Olatunji, for supporting the media community and contributing to the development of critical infrastructure for journalism practice.
She described the gesture as timely and strategic, noting that the proposed Congress Hall would serve as a hub for professional development, training, welfare coordination, and constructive engagement between journalists and key stakeholders.
“This gesture demonstrates confidence in the Nigerian media and the vital role it plays in national development. The NUJ FCT Council remains committed to delivering a functional Congress Hall that will serve as a centre for training, innovation and the welfare of our members,” she said.
Comrade Ike assured the donor of transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the materials, reiterating the Council’s determination to complete the project for the benefit of journalists in Abuja and future generations.
Representatives of Bespoke Urban Luxury Limited said the intervention was inspired by the critical role of the media in national development and democratic consolidation, adding that the support aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility commitment to community growth and institutional capacity building.
Members of the NUJ FCT Council present at the event described the donation as exemplary and called on other corporate organisations, public-spirited individuals, and development partners to emulate the gesture.
When completed, the NUJ FCT Ultramodern Congress Hall is expected to provide offices, training halls, and modern facilities that will enhance journalism practice in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Council also appealed for sustained partnerships and support from government agencies and the private sector to ensure the timely completion of the landmark project.
