The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris has called on Nigerians to take advantage of the Holy month of Ramadan to pray for the country
He made the call during the 19th Annual Ramadan Lecture on the topic: “Faith Politics and Power: the Involvement of Ulamas (Islamic Scholars) and its Implications”, held in Kaduna State Northwest Nigeria.
“We hope that the Annual Ramadan Lecture is not just a lecture in religion for all of us, It is also a wake-up call for all of us to come together as Nigerians to forge a common unity for the progress of our country.”
The Minister said the present administration is committed to the well-being of Nigerians, which puts so much emphasis on national security, education, infrastructure, health, and agriculture; adding that one of the most outstanding outcomes of the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
“As we navigate politics and power and its effects on political discussions, we must uphold the right to fulfill our obligations that all bind us together by promoting harmony, resilience, and also encouraging unity amongst our people.”
In his speech, the Guest Speaker, Chief Missioner Nasrul-Lahi-I-Fatih Society of Nigeria, NASFAT Sheik Morufu Onike, encourages Islamic Scholars to participate in Politics since the Islam religion does not prohibit their participation. Hence, they advise the government to tackle many challenges bedeviling the county.
Sheikh Onike stated that Islamic Scholars have a major role to play in Nigeria’s politics, looking at their influence and integrity on society.
“Islam is beyond five daily prayers, and it allows Ulama to participate in Politics; politics and religion are interwoven. It has become necessary for Muslims to participate in Politics to defend their interest and seek their rights in their country.
” There are so many Islamic Scholars during Prophet Muhammad SAW who participated in politics and governed their people excellently, he further advised the Ulama to be objective and unbiased and advised the government on how to enhance the well-being of the masses.”
In his address, the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani commended the effort of the conveners of the Annual Ramadan Lecture to seek the prayers of Muslims in the Holy month of Ramadan for the peace and harmony of Kaduna State and Nigeria at large
The Governor was represented by the Director General Bureau of Interfaith Barrister Tahir Mamman, who said the Kaduna State government is also committed to providing critical infrastructure for the betterment of its people.
The Director General Voice of Nigeria Mallam Jibril Baba Ndace expressed the commitment of VON to ensuring that the country remains united regardless of religion ethnicity and Social background
He further urged Muslims to practice the lesson learned from the lecture and be brother-keepers
The 19th Annual Ramadan Lecture was organized by Voice of Nigeria VON, Nigerian Television Authority NTA, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN, and the National Broadcasting Commission NBC is an annual event that discusses contemporary issues in religion, politics, education, among others, to educate Muslims and Nigerians through Islamic Scholars.
