The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria says it will continue to strengthen its internal capacity to rise up to emerging challenges.
The Federal Commissioner, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim said this during an interactive session with Journalists, in Abuja, Nigeria.
Suleiman-Ibrahim said that the Nigerian Government has done well establishing the structures, but strengthening them was key to addressing challenges.
He said; “As you know, the areas of our mandate are areas of migration, refugee management and displacement management. The provision of durable solutions on sustainable solutions for all persons of concerns is an evolving area, you know, with different dimensions of challenges. So, we must continue to strengthen our instruments so that we can do more.”
Speaking on the Commission’s challenges, Suleiman-Ibrahim said; ”focusing on the challenges will only succeed in bringing out the negatives out of the Government.
” So, we are focusing on the opportunities, the challenges are there, there are gaps but we are working on closing gaps. Like I said, it’s very important that we work together as a society towards addressing issues for Persons of Concern, because the government can’t do it alone. But, with partnership from every organ of the society, we can rise up to the occasion and we will be able to work as quickly as we ought to.”
“We want to address the issues of very limited funding available to work with concerted and coordinated effort. You know, in the long run, we’ve to emerge victorious in supporting and providing assistance and protection to all persons of concerns in Nigeria of Nigeria.”
Suleiman-Ibrahim further reaffirmed her support for President Muhammadu Buhari and towards a resounding victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the coming general elections.
