Somali leaders meet to break electoral impasse
Federal and regional leaders are currently meeting in Mogadishu, Somalia in efforts to break the electoral impasse.
In attendance for the ice breaking session are President Madobe of Jubaland and Puntland leaders who have been absent from previous talks.
The much anticipated Face to face talks between Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo and the Presidents of Somalia’s regional states are taking place in Mogadishu’s Afisyone Air Base.
The UN Security Council has in the recent past called on Somalia’s federal government and regional states to urgently resume talks and agree on arrangements to hold elections as soon as possible.
The Horn of African country witnessed a political stalemate after presidential and parliamentary elections were delayed and the president’s constitutional mandate expired on February 8.
