The House of Representatives in Nigeria has urged the Ministry of Health to reconsider the process of converting Daura General Hospital to Federal Medical Centre in the interest of the public.

This was sequel to the adoption of a motion by Honourable Babangida Ibrahim, on the Need to Relocate the Upgraded General Hospital, Daura to Funtua as Federal Medical Centre.

The House also called on the Ministry of Health to facilitate the relocation of the Federal Medical Centre to Funtua being the only Senatorial District without a federal health tertiary institution with immediate effect.

The Lawmaker stated that there was a recent approval to convert the General Hospital Daura to a Federal Medical Centre following the upgrade of the Federal Medical Centre Katsina to a University Teaching Hospital.

This according to him, was despite the establishment by the Federal Government of a Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital in Daura.

Honourable Ibrahim noted that the interest of the large populace in Katsina State would be adversely affected if the sited Federal Medical Centre was left in Daura, despite the air force hospital and proximity to the state capital.

He added that only Funtua Senatorial District lacks the presence of a Federal Medical facility despite its geographical distance from such facilities available in the State.

Adopting the motion, the House mandated the Committees on Healthcare Services and Legislative compliance to ensure compliance.
