Residents of Calabar Municipality around the IBB way and Atimbo in Cross River State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the quick arrival of electoral materials for the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The residents said “during the presidential and Senatorial elections held on Feb. 25, most polling units got materials very late which delayed the process.

But it is different for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections. As early as 8.20 am local time, most of the polling units were already set with their materials, with both security officials and party agents on ground. This is highly commendable.”

In an interview with an agent of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Emmanuel Okpebiri in Ward 2 Polling Unit 018, he said;  “it is a significant improvement.

Before I came out as early as 8.20 INEC Staff were already here setting up with security officials. This is good, I am hopeful that people will come out to vote as we have sensitised them.”

In Polling Unit 002, in Ward 2, by Edim Otop Market, the materials were also early and voting started as early as 8.30 am local time.

Mr Emmanuel Ibangha an agent of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP said the polling unit was peaceful and voting started early.

He prayed that the situation remained that way till the end of the day.

Other polling units in Ward 002 and 003 all witnessed the early arrival of electoral materials at 8.30 am.

However, while the electoral materials arrived early with security officials, the turnout of voters has been very low.

All of the polling units had a handful of electorates who have come out to cast their votes.

Voice of Nigeria reports that commercial activities were in top gear at the popular Edim-Otop Market as the people went about their businesses as if the election were not on.
