The Rivers State Police Command South-South Nigeria, has officially announced the commencement of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration, unveiling a lineup of community-focused programmes designed to strengthen trust and collaboration between law enforcement and residents.
The Command in a press release stated that this year’s celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflects a renewed commitment to fostering stronger police-community relations while promoting public safety across Rivers State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the week-long activities are tailored not only to honor the sacrifices of officers but also to give back to society through impactful outreach initiatives.
The events will commence on Monday, March 30, with a statewide sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise, alongside a medical outreach programme aimed at improving public health.
These initiatives are expected to draw participation from officers and community members alike, reinforcing the spirit of shared responsibility.
On Tuesday, March 31, attention will shift to a walkathon for peace and public safety.
The symbolic march will begin at the Police Headquarters on Moscow Road and proceed to Isaac Boro Park, serving as a public demonstration of unity and commitment to a safer society.
Midweek activities on April 1 will focus on community engagement and sensitization, particularly addressing the dangers of electoral violence and promoting safe driving practices. The programme is expected to involve stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders in meaningful dialogue.
A solemn highlight of the celebration will take place on Thursday, April 2, with the presentation of cheques to families of deceased officers, recognizing their sacrifices and providing support to those left behind.
The celebrations will culminate in a grand finale on April 7 in Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display expected to showcase the professionalism and preparedness of the force.
The Command has extended an open invitation to residents, stakeholders, and partner organizations to actively participate in the events, emphasizing that building trust and sustaining peace requires collective effort.
Members of the public are also encouraged to reach out through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit and control room lines for inquiries or assistance during the celebration period.
