The second stanza of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season produced interesting outcomes, as Rivers United maintained its four-point cushion at the top of the standings after a 0-0 draw against Rangers International.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers made a fast start and Osagie Onisodumeya had to be alert to deal with a teasing Emmanuel Essien cross. Chimobi Iwilo looked certain to score the goalkeeper saved the goal-bound effort.

After the restart, Maclyn Biokpo came closest with a chip from just after the centre circle that nearly flew into the top corner, as Rangers made an attempt to score. But Rivers United stood firm and defended well.

It was tight and tense, but towards the closing stages, Rangers International were presented with a huge chance when Evans Iyiebi’s flashed his free-kick just narrowly wide. Despite some late pressure, the scores remained 0-0 as the referee blew the final whistle.

Rivers United now have 38 points and are four (4) points ahead of second-placed Abia Warriors, who slipped at home after a 1-1 draw against Plateau United.
Match day 20 in the NPFL will be rounded off on Thursday, when Katsina United play hosts to Kun Khalifat FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
