Road Safety Corps to launch Operation Winter in three Northern States

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says it will launch “Operation Winter” next week to create more avenue and safer roads within the axis of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
Zonal Commanding Officer of the Corps in Sokoto State, Muhammad Alhassan, stated this while interacting with Journalists in his office.
According to him, the operation will assist in the reduction of traffic issues and roads Mortality to the minimal level.
“This Operation will be launch to create more avenue where our drivers will have safer roads and achieve the set Targets in reducing the rate of Roads Traffic Cases and Roads Mortality Rate across the three States,” he said.
The zonal Commanding Officer stated that the entire local governments across the axis would be covered to ensure safety of Roads.
He explained that the Corps has three Sector Commands, 18 units and 8 Outpost and a new Outpost will be established in Tureta local government to ensure quick response of FRSC personnel on accident and related issues along Sokoto-Mafara road.
Mr Alhassan further explained that from January 1 this year, no fewer than 70 vehicles were arrested in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States for violating COVID-19 established Protocols.
“The FRSC has continued to monitor proper compliance with all COVID-19 protocols by commuters and to ensure that the presidential order on the pandemic is strictly adhere to,” he said.
Working With Other Security Agencies
He explained that personnel of the corps had been directed to continue to work closely with other security agencies across the three States for effective services delivery.
“The personnel of the Zone has been directed to work professionally with their sister security agencies particularly on data collection and harmonisation within the area of their responsibility,” he added.
Alhassan also use the medium to call on drivers and travellers and other roads users to avoid over speeding, overloading and packing people with animals or grains while travelling.
He warned officers in the zone to stay away from collecting bribe, especially while on duty, emphasising that such acts would not be condoned.
“We will ensure appropriate sanction if found wanting,” he said.
He solicited for more support and cooperation from stakeholders, Traditional leaders in the zone, especially the NURTW, NUPENG and among others.
Alhassan commended the three States Governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara for their support and understanding.
The Zonal Commanding Officer further commended Media for their unrelenting effort in creating more awareness among the general public.
