The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden has urged all levels of government to invest in teachers and improve public school infrastructure to ensure quality education for Nigerian children.
President of the club, Christiana Okenla made the appeal during the “Pack to School” project, part of activities marking Basic Education and Literacy Month.
Okenla said “the initiative highlights the Rotary Club’s ongoing commitment to promoting literacy, improving learning environments, and empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders.”

It saw pupils at Badore Community Junior Secondary School and Ado Secondary School receive school materials such as books and school bags among others.
Rotary International has seven areas of focus, and one of them is basic education and literacy. The month of September is dedicated to this cause, which is why our club decided to extend our gestures to Nigerian children with the ‘Pack to School’ project,” she said.
Okenla emphasised the timing of the initiative saying; “October first marks another day of independence for Nigeria. Applying aids that can help children to learn, become leaders of tomorrow, and make them do more for the community is the reason why we’re here and it should be the focus of every leader.”

She encouraged students to study diligently, respect authority, and pursue excellence, while urging parents to actively support their children’s education.
Other club members, including past President Osas Airen and the Service Project Chairman, Akinlabi Akintayo, emphasized the need for adequate learning resources and qualified teachers in public schools in Nigeria.
The students and head teacher, Mr. Solomon thanked the Rotary Club for the donations and called on the government to make education more accessible, improve learning environments with basic infrastructure and address challenges such as hunger among schoolchildren.
