Nigeria’s Minister for Works, Engr. David Umahi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to road infrastructure revolution, with the completion of the second Niger Bridge.
David Umahi gave the commendation on Sunday, December 3, 2023, during the handover of the second Niger Bridge to the federal government by the Managing Director, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Lars Richter.
The minister said that the completion of the second main Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, would help a lot in reducing the traffic congestion of the area.
He, however, added that the project was not fully completed:

“The roads are going to be completed when we have completed the two interchanges: one is taking us off from Asaba town to cut off the traffic, and the other one is going to be done by Reynolds Construction Company Ltd to avoid Onitsha town and take you straight to Obosi.”

Earlier, the minister supervised the ongoing construction of federal roads connecting Abia, Enugu, and Anambra States where he advised the engineers to pour pure river sharp sand, pulverize the area, water it and allow vehicles to move on it until after two weeks, when they can then put concrete on the area.
“This process is only required in the area where the road has failed,” the minister explained.
For his part, the Managing Director, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Lars Richter, said the handover was just a technical one.
“The Main Second Niger Bridge has been completed. The toll stations are also ready for use,” Lars said.
The Director, Bridge Design and Construction, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr Obioha Bede, advised the road users to ensure that they obey the rules guiding road usage.
