Secretary to Government: George Akume assumes office in Abuja

The newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume has assumed office as the 20th Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.

In a handover ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital the SGF said he would run an open-door policy to accommodate good counsel, especially from his predecessor.

According to him, with the crop of staff in the Office of the SGF, he is sure that his work will be easier.

He assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians that he would deploy his political will and administrative expertise to bear in the discharge of his duties.

“We’ll do our best in the interest of our country. I’ll carefully go through these notes that will act as a guide as I go over the stream of literature, here. The office is very sensitive, i sincerely seek your cooperation. One tree cannot make a forest and I must confess that I’ll be learning, too. I’m not Aristotle”.

The immediate past SGF, Boss Mustapha briefed his successor on the activities of the Office of the SGF.

He emphasised that the Office is the engine House of the Government that deals with the constitutional, political and economic public safety matters.

“Coordinate policy design and formulation by Ministries, Departments and Agencies for approval by Government; Serve as the Secretariat to the Council of State, the Federal Executive Council, Security Council and other Constitutional Councils which are chaired by the President;Coordinate the activities of Ministries and Government Agencies as well as monitor the implementation of Government decisions, policies and programmes”.

According to him the office will also handle constitutional, Political and socio-economic matters as may be referred to the Presidency.

“Serve as the Chief Adviser to Mr. President and the Vice President on policy issues; Provide administrative support services for Administrative Tribunals, Commissions and Panels of Enquiry; Coordinate public safety matters amongst others. 

Boss Mustapha thanked former President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve his fatherland.
