A coordinated security operation is underway in Kebbi State following an early-morning attack at the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

Security forces have deployed both ground and aerial assets to track the abductors, locate the students, and strengthen security across the affected area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at the school, situated in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, when armed individuals launched an attack on the premises.

In a statement, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that its tactical teams, already stationed at the school, bravely engaged the attackers, preventing what could have been a far more devastating outcome.

Tragically, the school’s vice principal, Hassan Makuku, lost his life during the exchange of gunfire. A staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary reports suggest that several students were taken from the school by the assailants.

A major search-and-rescue operation—jointly conducted by the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Military and local vigilante groups—commenced immediately after the incident.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, is personally leading the coordinated effort.
“Our officers are tirelessly combing surrounding forests and transit routes to ensure the safe return of the students and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.

CP Sani commended the courage of the first responders and appealed to the public to remain calm, emphasising that community cooperation remains crucial to the success of the ongoing operation.

The Kebbi State Government has assured residents of its unwavering commitment to resolving the situation.

In a statement, the Senior Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Zuru, said the government, in close collaboration with federal security agencies, is deploying all available resources to ensure a swift and safe resolution.

“The safety of our children and the security of our communities remain our utmost priority,” he affirmed.

The incident has triggered a robust and determined response from Nigeria’s security apparatus, underscoring the government’s resolve to protect citizens and counter criminal activity.
