Security: Nigerian government needs to focus on information gathering – YPP Presidential Candidate
Zubairu Mohammed, Abuja
The Presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party YPP, Mr. Ado Ibrahim, says the Nigerian government needs to focus on effective information-gathering techniques to protect the nation.
Mr. Ibrahim made the call in Abuja during a press conference organised by the party in reaction to the security threat alert issued by American Embassy in Abuja.

Mr. Ibrahim urged Nigerian Authority to employ modern technology to get first-hand information to address the security and other challenges in the country.
“Nigeria needs a fundamental change that would bring new hands that understand better what will happen in this twenty-first century where information passes around quickly.
“I asked the government to keep us in mind ahead of the information, let us feel that the government is concerned about us.
This is not a political issue; It’s a matter of life and death. We must preserve best Nigeria for better days tomorrow.”
The YPP Presidential candidate suggests measures to be adopted to address the security issue in the country by using intelligence information gathering and dissemination.
“The fundamental element missing is effective intelligence information human gathering which is better.
“The human intelligent matter is helpful to ease people’s fear and keep people informed before events happen.
“With modern social media information flying quickly, when you have such knowledge, it is essential to gather and disseminate information to the appropriate agencies as quickly as possible.
“You counter measures always in place, and avoid accepting foreign missionaries (soldiers) in Nigeria that send the worst signal.”
He said the information given to the public is in the nation’s interest and not politicising the issue.
“I am not in a political fight with this administration going forward. Nigeria needs understand that information can be harmful and can take this government backwards.
“We need a government that focuses on better intelligence gathering, emphasis on our people, giving people the ability to clinch the information first-hand and know that the government is active and working on their behavior, which is vital for the unity of this country.
“The information needs to get down to the public and if it is otherwise, it could mean that, the government is not caring.
Other embassies did that to safeguard the interest of their citizens, and Nigeria should do the same to protect us from panic,” Mr. Ibrahim emphasised.
The YPP Presidential candidate concluded that “Nigeria should not be bringing an army into this kind of situation unless there is a battle to be fought; that is what YPP’s manifesto will consider as the national guard.
“Allowing Nigerians to know the government of the day is in action, taking their safety as the number one concern as any committed government should.
“The security of the people and the country should be one of the priorities, and that would be a meaningful change that YPP would make.
“Nigerians would hear, see, and feel secure when given a mandate.”
