Security operatives have arrested several persons in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State causing tension and fear among the residents that gathered in polling units for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Reports said some armed men believed to be fake policemen invaded the local government to disrupt the elections as a combined team of soldiers, policemen and Civil Defence arrested some culprits.

The development was confirmed on Saturday morning by the Anglican Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Daniel Olinya.

The Bishop told journalists that “Isi-Uzo was under siege by fake security agencies.”

He stated that in the polling unit where he was supposed to vote, the situation was not different.

“When I got to my polling unit at Umuokpara, members of a particular political party were intimidating voters who they feel are not in support of their party. When I spoke, they shouted me down.

“I asked about the presence of policemen and a lady on bathroom slippers showed up. When I enquired about her ID card, she showed me a cap.”

“This is the situation in all the polling units in Eha-Amufu…We are calling on the Commissioner of Police to do something about this ugly situation,” Bishop Olinya said.
