The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, has approved the installation of internet facilities at the Press Centre of Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin.

Senator Mustapha made this known on Saturday night during a brief interactive session with Journalists after Iftar (breaking of fast) he organized for them at his private residence in Ilorin.

Mustapha, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production and Rural Services, said the installation of the internet facilities at the NUJ Press Centre would assist journalists in filing their stories on time and with ease.

The Senator noted that the gesture was aimed at ensuring that practitioners in the media industry ply their trade in a conducive environment and minimize their expenses on internet subscriptions.

Mustapha also pledged to always be of assistance to the Council whenever the need arises.

“I want to appreciate you (Journalists) for all that you have been doing in projecting us, and for drawing our attention to issues that needed to be addressed as lawmakers. As politicians representing our people, we cannot quantify the amount of job you do.

“In consultation with my team, we have resolved to bankroll the installation of internet facilities at Kwara NUJ Press Centre for the use of Journalists to file their news stories in quick time and with ease.

“We are doing this to relieve you and your work and to also assist you in terms of data subscription. My team will reach out to you very soon to commence the installation of the facilities”, the Senator said.

Saving cost

In his remarks, the state Chairman of NUJ, Abdullateef Lanre Ahmed, thanked the Kwara Central Senator for approving the installation of the internet facilities.

Ahmed noted that the facilities, when installed, would save Journalists the needless burden of the cost of data subscription while filing news reports to their respective media outfits.
