Senators from the North Central geo-political zone of the country, have endorsed the aspiration of Senator Sani Musa for the Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.

Senator Sani Musa is the representative of the Niger East Senatorial district in the current ninth National Assembly. He is also the Chairman Senate Services Committee.

Addressing Journalists this weekend after their meeting in Abuja, the Senators, under the aegis of the North Central Caucus Senators elect, confirmed that the zone is now settling for the position of Deputy President of the Senate.

According to Senator Aliyu Wadada who convened the meeting, the governing party APC leaders have been told about the caucus’ decision. Senator Wadada is the Senator-elect for Nasawara West Senatorial district of the forthcoming parliament.

We convened this meeting to welcome Mr President-Elect from his foreign trip. We also appreciate his disposition to ensure that fairness and equity take place in the distribution of leadership positions to all geopolitical zones.

“We are aware that there are agitations from different geo-political zones on the positions of Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

“We are aware of these agitations. The South West and the North East having produced the president and the vice president respectively, the North Central as a result is of the stand and position that the least position we will go for is that of the Deputy Senate President.

“We are for the Deputy Senate President position. We shall work in harmony and mutually with other geopolitical zones in Nigeria.”

Senator Wadada also confirmed that the Senate caucus is working in synergy with other political stakeholders of their party, especially in the north-central zone, including the House of Representatives caucus.

Equity and fairness

In an exclusive interview with Voice of Nigeria, Senator Sani Musa confirmed that he would settle for the position of Deputy President of the Senate in line with the APC’s policy of ensuring fairness equity, and justice in all its affairs.

“It will not be fair for us to have Muslims as President, Vice President, and Senate President at the same time, which is why I am aligning myself with our party’s footprint of making sure that all stakeholders are treated equally and fairly.

“My legacy if elected as Deputy President of the Senate, would be to protect the Nigerian constitution, and entrench the culture of justice, equity, and fairness, which the APC is spearheading,” he added
