Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he has no reason to want Mohamed Salah to leave the club as he prepares for a crucial face-to-face meeting with the forward to determine his availability for Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Speculation over Salah’s future intensified after the Egyptian publicly criticised the club following last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United. With Liverpool sitting 10th on 23 points after 15 matches, a dramatic drop from last season’s title-winning campaign, questions have mounted about his long-term plans.

Salah did not travel for Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan on Tuesday, a move Slot said was a club decision.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning,” Slot told reporters on Friday. “The outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow.”

Asked if he wanted Salah to stay, Slot responded: “I have no reasons to not want him to stay,” but declined to offer assurances about the forward’s future. “The next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here.”

Slot added that discussions between Salah, his representatives and the club intensified after the Sunderland match, but declined to elaborate.

Salah, who enjoyed an exceptional 2024-25 season, has endured a turbulent campaign. He is due to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, adding to the uncertainty surrounding whether he will return to Anfield afterwards. Saudi clubs are reportedly circling, and Salah has hinted that his Liverpool chapter may be nearing its end.
