The Sokoto State Government has launched the Shagon Sauki (Palliative Shop) initiative to provide relief to residents and cushion the effects of economic challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Inaugurating the shop, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State said the program is designed to make essential commodities more affordable for civil servants, local government staff, and pensioners.

He noted that the initiative will provide essential commodities like rice, millet, wheat, cooking oil, and spaghetti at subsidised prices.

He said these commodities are commonly consumed by many households in the state.

Governor Aliyu explained that the state government will start the initiative in six local government areas, namely Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Dange-Shuni, Wamakko, Kware, and Bodinga, with an initial subsidy of 20%.

This is just the beginning, and we plan to expand the initiative to cover the remaining 17 local governments in the state,” he stated.

Governor Aliyu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for introducing various interventions that have direct impact to the lives of common citizens.

Shortly after commissioning the initiative, the Jigawa state Governor, Umar Namadi, applauded Ahmed Aliyu for delivering dividends of democracy to the people within two years in office.

A wise choice

Governor Namadi who described his Sokoto counterpart as an excellent performer, further congratulated the people of the state for making a wise choice in Ahmed Aliyu.

He said Jigawa state already launched the initiative and yielded more results to the people of the state.

Earlier, Chairman of the State Committee on sales of food items and other commodities at subsidized rate, and former Deputy Governor of the state, Abdullahi Chiso said all payments at the Shagon Saudi shop will be electronically and cash not accepted.
