Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has presented the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill, amounting to ₦758,700,526,537.89, to the State House of Assembly.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Socioeconomic Expansion,” places strong emphasis on developmental projects in the coming year.
A breakdown of the estimates shows that capital expenditure accounts for ₦551,493,592,103.43, while recurrent expenditure stands at ₦207,206,934,434.43.
Presenting the budget, Governor Aliyu said the health sector received the lion’s share, followed by works and education.
He noted that 72 per cent of the budget is allocated to capital projects, while the remaining 28 per cent is for recurrent expenditure.
The governor said his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructural development across the state.
He added that during the year under review, his government executed numerous people-oriented projects in line with his Nine-Point Smart Agenda.
On security challenges, Aliyu disclosed that over 270 patrol vehicles and 500 motorcycles were procured and distributed to security agencies to curb the activities of bandits in the state.
He further said the state government had constructed a military base in Illela Local Government Area, ensured full operationalisation of the Air Force Base, and purchased, upgraded the Department of State Services (DSS) tracker vehicle from 4G to 5G for effective surveillance.
On the promotion of Islamic affairs, the governor said his administration had constructed and renovated several mosques, provided boreholes, carpets, and solar power systems to enhance the comfort of worshippers.
“We have also introduced monthly cash allocations to 87 Juma’at mosques, ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000,” he said.
“We also gave food and cash assistance to Imams, Deputy Imams, and grassroots preachers across the state,” Aliyu added.
The governor also revealed that his administration had constructed and commissioned 167 township roads during the year under review, while 120 roads are currently under construction and have reached advanced stages of completion.

He assured residents of the state of his administration’s commitment to making Sokoto a better place and appealed for the support of all stakeholders.
Aliyu commended the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, which he said had contributed to the successes recorded so far.
The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and the meaningful policies introduced for the development of the state and the country.
Receiving the budget, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, thanked Governor Aliyu for what he described as a well-presented budget.
He assured the governor of the Assembly’s speedy consideration of the budget in the interest of growth and development.
The Speaker commended the governor for transforming the state and pledged continued legislative support to move Sokoto forward.
