Sokoto State: Alumni Association honours pioneer VC, others

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Alumni Association has conferred an honours to pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Sai’du Galadanchi and his successors.

Other awardees include, the Nigerian Permanent Representative in the United Nations, Professor Tijjani Bande and the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi.

Others were: Professor Mahdi Adamu Ngaski, Professor Abubakar Gwandu, Professor. Aminu Mika’ilu, Professor Riskuwa Shehu, Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru and the Incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawal Bilbis.

The awards were presented at the 7th national convention and election of new executives held at the Auditorium of the University.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lawal Bilbis, stressed the need for Alumnus to give back to the institution by constructing students hostels and giving financial assistance to current students.

Bilbis charged members of the association to continue to remain United for the overall development of education and the institution.

He further advised members of the Alumni to give back to their former school.

Also, speaking the the Vice Chancellor of Al’Qalam University, Professor Nasiru Yauri, Katsina canvassed for the appointment of alumnus into the governing board of the university as in the case with the polytechnics.

He urged members of the association to always remember the institution and bring more developmental interventions.

“For the fact that the university added value to all of us, we should give back to the mother that nourished us,” Professor Yauri said.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state who is also an alumnus of the school, assured the University of the continuous support of his government.

Represented by his Deputy, Idris Gobir, he sought for support and advice from members to enable him govern the state successfully.

The former National President of the association and Former Deputy Governor of Kano state, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, further advised the incoming executive committee to ensure unity of the association and work towards the development of the institution.

Gawuna who is the immediate past National President of alumni, thanked members for the opportunity given to him to serve within the period of his tenure.

Those elected as new leaders are: Dr Buhari Bello Kware as National President, Hajiya Amina Kolo national Vice President I, Abdullahi Bala Tafida, national Vice President ll, Alhaji Mustapha Marafa as National Vice President III, as well as Muhammad Bashir Hussain as National Secretary.

Others are: Aishatu Salihu Gatawa as National Treasurer, Dr Shuaibu Lapai as National Financial Secretary, Barrister Aliyu Yahaya Wurma as National Welfare Secretary, Barrister Abdulmalik Abdulmajid, as National Legal Adviser, Olaitan Akande as National Publicity Secretary and among others.
