The Labour Party (LP) in Sokoto State has conducted its state congress and elected Comrade Abubakar Yawale as its new chairman, alongside 34 other executive members, to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years.

Announcing the results, the returning officer for the congress, Bashar Umar Tambuwal, described the process as a free, fair and credible exercise.

“I testify that the election was conducted without any rancour and in full compliance with the law,” he added.

He said the chairman and 34 other executives were duly elected by delegates from 23 local government areas of the state.

He expressed appreciation to the delegates for their support and for being orderly while conducting the exercise.

In his remarks, the party leader in the state, Chief Ifeanyi Ezeagwu, commended the delegates, the Independent National Electoral Commission officials and party stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Chief Ezeagwu further pledges more support to the newly elected executives to deliver on their mandate effectively.

“I assure you that the Labour Party members will continue to work as one indivisible family to support your efforts and ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.

“The task ahead is critical, and we must continue striving to achieve our goals,” he noted.

The party leader said the consensus process underscored the importance of unity and collective decision-making.

“As we strive to entrench internal democracy in our dear country, Nigeria, it’s imperative to pay close attention to party politics.

“As we move forward, I urge the newly elected leadership to prioritise inclusivity, transparency, and accountability.

“It is essential that all stakeholders are carried along in the decision-making process to ensure the party’s continued growth and success,” he charged.

Chief Ifeanyi Ezeagwu congratulated the new executives and sought divine guidance and intervention for them as they discharge their responsibilities.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Yawale, thanked the delegates and party stakeholders, as well as all supporters, for their commitment and for giving the new executives a chance to lead the party.

“We are honoured by the confidence placed in us again, and we will work with all party members and stakeholders to ensure the party’s victory at all levels across the state come 2027,” he said.

The new chairman disclosed that new strategies would be adopted to foster an all-inclusive participation towards party success at all levels.

Some of the elected executive members included Sa’idu Ahamad Muhammad (Vice Chairman) and Nura Abubakar (Secretary).

Others were Mallam Ladan Muhammad (Deputy Chairman, Sokoto North), Abdullahi Muhammad (Deputy Chairman, Sokoto South), and Dr Ibrahim Lawal Isah (Deputy Chairman, Sokoto East).
