The Federal Commissioner representing Sokoto State at National Population Commission, Mr Chiso Dattijo, has described the just concluded trial census in nine local government areas of Sokoto State as successful.
Mr Dattijo made the description at a press briefing on the trial census for the forthcoming 2023 population and housing census in Sokoto.
According to him, the trial census conducted between June 27th to July 30th was a full rehearsal that particularly addressed the logistics aspect of the enumeration exercise and the new digital methodology.
He explained that the exercise was expedient not only to plan for National Population and housing census and to also review the activities during the process.
“The exercise conducted between June and July was a successful process.
“The result is highly confidential and will give comparative of the trend being proceeded”, he said.
He added that the information received from the exercise has since been uploaded to the NPC server for the statistical and development planning process.
He called on the private and non-government organisations to join hands in assisting the commission on the task ahead.
“Since the commission’s aim is the overall state mobilisation and coverage, it still needs the assistance of other organisations to ensure nothing is left to chance
“Individuals and organisations can come to the aid of the commission in the area of logistics support and enlightenment campaigns,” he added.
Mr Dattijo however commended the support and cooperation of the state government, particularly the affected local government areas towards ensuring the success of the trial census.
He also applauded security operatives, media, staff of the Commission and other partners for understanding and cooperation, but urged them to continue to give more before, during and after the forthcoming April 2023 Census.
It could be recalled that the trial census was conducted in 9 local government areas which comprise 3 LGA from each Senatorial District of Sokoto State.
