Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has commissioned a newly renovated healthcare facility and a 4.2-kilometre road in the Igbo-Ukwu community of Aguata Local Government Area.

The governor’s visit, which drew widespread community support, featured the formal inauguration of the completed projects and a rally where residents expressed their endorsement of his re-election bid.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, described the visit as both a celebration of developmental milestones and a reaffirmation of the strong bond between the Soludo administration and the people of Igbo-Ukwu.

Governor Soludo’s first stop was the newly renovated Primary Health Centre in Obiuno, which was rehabilitated by a philanthropic family and handed over to the state government. During the commissioning ceremony, the governor renamed it “Comprehensive Medical Centre” and announced the deployment of medical personnel to ensure access to quality healthcare services, including free antenatal and delivery care.

“This centre is a shining example of private-public-community partnership,” Soludo said. “Together, we can achieve more for our people.”

Following the health facility’s inauguration, the governor commissioned a 4.2-kilometre road, constructed under the facilitation of Hon. Dom Okafor, the member representing Aguata Federal Constituency. The road, which is expected to enhance mobility and stimulate local economic activities, was described as a critical artery for residents and businesses in the area.

The day’s high point was a colourful rally at Central School, Igbo-Ukwu, where residents pledged their continued support for Governor Soludo and Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim ahead of the 2025 governorship election.

Amid chants and cultural displays, the governor outlined his vision for the future of Igbo-Ukwu, announcing the ongoing redesign of the iconic Igbo-Ukwu Museum, home to the famed Igbo-Ukwu bronzes, one of Nigeria’s oldest archaeological treasures.

“We are reinvigorating our heritage so that it shines brighter for future generations,” Soludo told the cheering crowd.

He also spoke about the completion of the Igbo-Ukwu Lighthouse, a project that took 34 years to realise, now serving as a repository for the community’s historical artefacts and a symbol of cultural pride.

In a powerful gesture of endorsement, the Igbo-Ukwu community presented a ₦50 million cheque to the governor, an expression of their trust in his leadership and commitment to Anambra’s progress.

Also speaking at the event, the governor drummed up support for Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the upcoming Anambra South Senatorial bye-election.

Governor Soludo was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff Ernest Ezeajughi, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and support groups.

Earlier at the rally, notable figures, including Barth Nwibe, Dr Greg Ezeilo, Charles Ezeanaekwe, Hon. Dom Okafor, and Sir MCK Ubah, praised Soludo’s achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic reform, stating that the community had witnessed “meaningful and measurable progress” under his administration.
