Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Saturday claimed a 2–0 victory over visiting Gateway FC of Abeokuta in their Matchday Two fixture of the 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL).
The match, held at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, ended goalless in the first half despite the home side creating multiple chances.
Opeoluwa Olufemi finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, before substitute Michael Olalusi extended the lead just three minutes later to seal the win for Sunshine Stars.
Head Coach Bobola Akinfolarin expressed satisfaction after the match, thanking fans for their continued support. “I am happy with the result. We created more chances and wanted the victory more than our opponents, and we got what we deserved,” he said.
Also responding, the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Divine Ogbonaya, stated that the club remained focused on achieving its season-long objectives. Gateway FC Head Coach, Ayo Filani, declined to comment after the match.
Sunshine Stars will next face Inter Lagos in their Matchday Three fixture.
