Despite being considered a strong contender for the Number 1 goalkeeping spot for the Super Eagles, Stanley Nwabali downplayed claims that he is now Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper.
The Chippa United FC of South Africa goalkeeper said this on Tuesday in Abidjan addressing reporters in Abidjan. Nwabali said he got an opportunity to represent his country, adding that he would deliver whenever he gets the chance to play.
Nwabali also said that he was not under any pressure while in goal for the Super Eagles, but was rather happy with his performance so far in the competition.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper has so far kept two (2) clean sheets in the three (3) games played so far at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote. He also appealed to Nigeria’s football fans to be calm as the goals would soon start coming to the delight of all.
Nigeria defeated Guinea Bissau 1-0 to qualify for the next round of the competition after finishing second in Group A, with seven (7) points from three games.
Equatorial Guinea topped the group with the same points (7), but finished with a superior goal-difference.
