Super Eagles Thrash Mozambique, Soars To Quarter-Finals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria celebrate 4-0 win against Mozambique, during Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 clash, at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in Fes, Morocco.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria capped a dominant night in Fès with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique, booking its place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), in one of the most complete performances of this tournament.

The breakthrough at the Morocco’s Complexe Sportif de Fes arrived in the 20th minute for Nigeria, when Ademola Lookman finished calmly to put the Super Eagles ahead.

Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen made no mistake, doubling the lead with a composed finish after finding space inside the box. The two-goal advantage at half-time accurately reflected Nigeria’s dominance.

After the restart, Nigeria increased the tempo, with Osimhen and Lookman linking up well in the final third.

Atalanta forward Lookman then turned provider in the 47th minute, setting up Osimhen to complete his brace and effectively end the contest.

Mozambique struggled to gain a foothold, with winger Geny Catamo kept quiet by a disciplined Nigerian defence marshalled superbly by Calvin Bassey.

Nigeria added further gloss to the scoreline in the 70th minute when Akor Adams struck the fourth, having earlier contributed two assists.

It capped a commanding display as the Super Eagles recorded their fourth straight win of the tournament.

Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals brimming with confidence, momentum firmly on their side as the knockout stage sharpens and the road to glory narrows.

The Super Eagles also surged to the top of the attacking charts in this tournament. They have registered 11 goals so far — edging past Senegal’s 10 — to underline their growing firepower and intent as the tournament gathers momentum.

The scoreline was matched by the quality of the display. Nigeria controlled the tempo from start to finish, mixing intensity with intelligence and punished every opening with precision. For Mozambique, the fairytale run comes to an end.

Nigeria will face either Algeria or DR Congo in the last eight, with that tie to be decided on Tuesday.
