Sweden laid down a marker for the rest of the teams at the 2023 Women’s World Cup after a statement win over Italy on Saturday with a 5-0 victory put them in pole position to top Group G.

Italy had no answers, and were poor in the defending of corners, as Sweden backed up a battling win over South Africa to make it two from two. Amanda Ilestedt netted twice for Sweden.

In another match, France leapfrogged Brazil into top spot in Group F with a 2-1 victory. The match looked to be heading for a draw after Debinha cancelled out Eugenie Le Sommer’s opener, but Wendie Renard netted an 83rd minute winner to crush the South Americans.

France move onto four points while Brazil remain on three. Panama and Jamaica, the other two teams in Group F, meet later on Saturday.
