The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Lagos Region, has successfully commissioned a new 300MVA power transformer at the 330/132/33kV Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.

The General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the commissioning represents a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.

She added that with the addition of the new transformer, the substation’s capacity has increased from 300MVA to 450MVA.

“This upgrade is expected to enhance bulk power availability for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), enabling improved electricity supply to customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede, and surrounding areas,” Mrs Mbah said.

Speaking on the project, the General Manager, Transmission, Lagos Region, Mr Adeshina Adeonipekun, revealed that the installation was completed in-house by TCN engineers within a record six weeks.

He noted that the achievement reflects the technical competence and commitment of TCN personnel in delivering reliable power infrastructure.

Adeonipekun further explained that the project aligns with TCN’s broader mandate to strengthen the national grid and ensure stable electricity transmission across the country.

He emphasised that such upgrades are crucial to supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life for electricity consumers.

“The commissioning of the 300MVA transformer underscores TCN’s continued efforts to modernise the transmission network and address capacity constraints,” he added.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the development will lead to reduced outages and improved service delivery within the Lagos axis.
