The Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, is set to hold the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, beginning from 27th to 28th January, as part of sustained national efforts to reposition teachers at the heart of education reform and national development.
The Summit themed: “Empowering Teachers, Strengthening the System: A National Agenda for Education Transformation and Sustainability,” will convene teachers, policymakers, education administrators, legislators, development partners, civil society organisations, the private sector, parents, the media and other key stakeholders to deliberate on practical strategies for improving teacher welfare, professionalism, instructional quality and learning outcomes across the country.
The Director of Press of the ministry, Boriowo Folashade, in a statement informed that the opening ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, 27th January 2026, will take place at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, and will be graced by Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who will deliver the Keynote Address
“The ceremony will also feature special remarks by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, alongside other senior government officials and prominent education stakeholders.
“A major highlight of the Summit will be the recognition and celebration of outstanding teachers nationwide, including the conferment of awards on Best Performing Teachers across the six geopolitical zones and the Overall Best Performing Teacher in Nigeria. This initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring dignity to the teaching profession, rewarding excellence, and motivating teachers as critical drivers of national development,” she said.
According to her, the Summit will also witness the official launch of the Edurevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, a strategic digital platform designed to expand access to continuous professional learning, skills enhancement and career development opportunities for teachers across Nigeria.
“In addition, the programme will feature high-level plenary sessions, panel discussions and expert presentations focusing on teacher welfare and wellbeing, professional capacity development, curriculum relevance in a rapidly changing world, innovative pedagogical approaches, and the integration of technology in teaching and learning. Renowned scholars, policymakers, practitioners and development partners are expected to contribute to solution-driven engagements,” she said.
She further explained that activities will continue on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the NUC Hall, with focused discussions on education reforms, teacher regulation, curriculum responsiveness and sustainable learning outcomes, stressing that the Summit will culminate in the presentation and adoption of a Communiqué, outlining actionable recommendations to guide future teacher-focused policies and reforms.
She said to ensure nationwide reach and inclusive participation, the opening ceremony and key sessions of the Summit will be broadcast live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Television Continental (TVC). Physical and virtual participation options have been provided.
