“The Black Book” breaks record on Netflix
“The Black Book”, a film directed by Editi Effiong, has become the biggest African title to stream globally on Netflix.
According to the streamer’s weekly top 10 chart, the movie is one of the most watched movies globally on Netflix for the past week.
In a global ranking conducted by Netflix.com that measured the viewership of films in English, the crime thriller came third with an impressive total of 11.2 million views and a staggering 21.3 million hours watched between September 25th to October 1st, 2023.
The viewings of The Black Book currently spreads across 69 countries, including South Korea, the United States of America, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Kenya, Martinique, Panama, Poland, Romania, Venezuela and Nigeria.

It’s the first time a Nollywood movie is breaking such a record.
Acknowledging the history-making feat on Twitter, the film’s director, Editi Effiong, thanked everyone for contributing to its success.

This new record is another breakthrough for the industry and the first-time director.

The Black Book stars Richard Mofe-Damijo a man whose son is wrongly accused and killed for the crime of kidnapping.
The father, who assumed the role of a deacon after his retirement from a dark past, takes matters into his hands and confronts both a crooked police gang and a shadowy organisation in order to clear his son’s name.
