The Department of Civil Military Affairs (DCMA) of the Nigerian Army has been commended for the critical programmes it carries out, which have been key to the successes of the Nigerian Army’s (NA) operations.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (JTF) of the North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Gold Chibuisi, gave the commendation when he received in audience the Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, on a courtesy visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters, Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.

General Chibuisi noted that the Nigerian Army places a high premium on non-kinetic operations being coordinated by the DCMA, as a corporate social responsibility that enhances military operations.

According to him, the activities of the department had created a better understanding between the Nigerian Army and civilians, emphasizing that this has had tremendous effects on the operations of the Nigerian Army.

He appreciated the Chief of Civil Military Affairs for the visit, expressing optimism that the department was in capable hands under the leadership of Major General Nosakhare Ugbo.

In his response, Major General Ugbo said they were in Maiduguri on an operational visit and to sensitize troops to the need to carry out their mandate professionally in line with international best practices.

He said periodic sensitization exercises would enable troops to better understand the rules of engagement and other laws of armed conflict and urged the troops to strictly adhere to international humanitarian laws for smooth operations.

He also noted that the programme will enlighten troops about the complaints of civilians within and outside the theatre of operations, in a bid to enable them to conduct themselves in a manner that is within the law.

High points of the visit were the signing of the visitor’s book, presentation of souvenirs, and group photograph.
