Tottenham Beats Newcastle 3-2 At St James’ Park
Tottenham Hotspur beat Newcastle 3-2 in their Premier League encounter courtesy of goals from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Spurs started with Kane up front, supported by Son and Lucas Moura. The hosts had Callum Wilson in attack in a 4-5-1 formation as Newcastle were looking to pick up all 3 points.
The atmosphere at St James’ Park was buzzing as the Newcastle fans welcomed their new owners to the stadium. The stadium erupted when Wilson headed home Newcastle’s opener inside two minutes. Javier Manquillo’s cross from the right wing found Wilson, who beat Sergio Romero and put the ball past Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham equalised 15 minutes later when Sergio Reguilon squared the ball across the top of the area for the waiting Ndombele, who had far too much time to shape his shot into the corner.
Moments later, Kane finally scored his first Premier League goal of the season when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass found the England striker. Kane lifted the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper Karl Darlow and into the back of the net to give his side the lead.

Kane was initially flagged for offside, but VAR intervened. A few minutes later, the game was brought to a halt after a medical emergency was spotted in the stands. Newcastle club doctor Paul Catterson and other medics were sent over to the supporter as Andre Marriner signalled for the players to return to the dressing room.
Once the fan’s condition had been stabilised, the players resumed the game with seven minutes of additional time in the first half. Tottenham added their third shortly after play resumed when Kane squared the ball into the six-yard box for Son. He then fired home at the far post as Spurs went into half-time with a commanding lead.

The intensity of the match was slow in the second half compared to the first. However, Tottenham still saw the better of the play, with Ndombele firing wide of the target on the hour mark.
Newcastle were reduced to 10 men late in the second half as Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for two quick yellow cards, 23 minutes after coming on as a substitute. However, Eric Dier’s calamitous own goal gave Newcastle a glimmer of hope.
However, Tottenham were able to see the game out as the match finished 3-2. The victory sees Tottenham into fifth place, going level on 15 points with Brighton in fourth. Newcastle remain second-bottom with just three points this season.
It is the second successive Premier League victory for Tottenham, while Newcastle remain winless in all competitions this season, throwing Steve Bruce’s future into further doubt.
“I think we handled it well, but we didn’t start well,” Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo said. “We knew what was coming, what’s happening around Newcastle, the atmosphere. They came and we weren’t able to handle it, but we came back fast and really good.”
“We played really good football. We achieved goals, we controlled the game. It was a really positive performance.”
