The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has intensified efforts to strengthen trade relations between Nigeria and India through enhanced private sector collaboration.

The First Deputy President of ACCI and National Vice President of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) on India affairs, Adesoji Adesugba, led a three-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the High Commission of India in Abuja.

The delegation was received by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, during discussions aimed at deepening bilateral trade and expanding cooperation between Nigerian and Indian businesses.

In a statement by ACCI, Talks during the meeting focused on facilitating an India–Nigeria Private Sector Dialogue, a platform designed to promote engagement between Nigerian companies and Indian firms operating in the country while strengthening cooperation with the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Prof. Adesugba highlighted the long-standing economic relationship between the two countries and the role of Nigeria’s chamber network in expanding trade opportunities.

In his remarks, the Indian High Commissioner Ambassador Abhishek Singh said India is observing positive investment signals in Nigeria.

“India is seeing encouraging signals in Nigeria, particularly in the area of investment opportunities,” he said, noting that several Nigerian companies operating in India are performing well.

Mr. Singh nominated Rajiv Saxena, Second Secretary for Commerce and Administration at the Indian High Commission, to work closely with the ACCI delegation to organise sector-specific engagements aimed at developing concrete joint initiatives between businesses from both countries.

According to him, sectors such as mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, solid minerals and textiles offer strong potential for bilateral cooperation.

The High Commissioner also disclosed that two textile-related events are expected to take place in 2026, including one scheduled for June, which could provide additional opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Nigerian textile companies.

Responding, Prof. Adesugba reiterated that the goal of the initiative is to establish a structured platform where business stakeholders from both countries can regularly meet to explore mutually beneficial economic opportunities.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s vast potential in the gemstone industry, noting that the country is richly endowed with gemstone resources that could attract partnerships with India in processing, development and trade.

Prof. Adesugba further invited the Indian High Commissioner to participate in the 2026 Abuja International Trade Fair, scheduled to hold from September 25 to October 6 in Abuja, where Indian businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their products and explore investment opportunities in Nigeria.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry to expand international partnerships and promote trade and investment between Nigeria and global markets.
