Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Rotimi Ameachi says the first Transport University in the country will commence academic session by September 2022.
The Minister stated while inspecting construction works at the University site in Daura, Katsina state North-West Nigeria.
He expressed satisfaction with the construction at the site, unlike the previous visit when it was slow adding that the Permanent Secretary of the ministry was tasked to expedite action for the commencement of the academic session.
“I have asked the contractors and they said there are seven buildings more to be built. I have asked my permanent Secretary to take on that, so the buildings can be completed on schedule.
“I’m impressed by what I have seen now unlike my last visit when I was unhappy with the slow pace of work. We are targeting September for the academic sessions to start so that Nigerians can have the opportunity to begin to read courses in transportation.”
On the inspection of the Kaduna -Kano Standard Guage Railway terminal in Kano state, the minister also acknowledged the progress of work but stated that there are some identified challenges, especially in the area land allocated for the project.
“Are there challenges? Yes, there are challenges with the land allocated for the project and we hope to resolve that with the Kano state Governor who gave us the land and that is the right way to go.”
According to him, further directive has been given to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the construction company CCECC, the project consultant Team and the Kano state government to have a meeting and iron out all other grey areas, stressing that the report is expected on his table, lastest Friday this week.
He also inspected the Dala Dry Inland Port, Kano, where he ordered the MD Ahmed Rabi’u to quickly finish the remaining part of the project, especially the landscaping for the presidential commissioning.
“For the structures, they have gone far but I want them to finish the landscaping so that I can bring the President to commission it soon,” he said.
The Minister also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Daura, Umar Farouk to inform him about the progress of work at the Transport University as well as intimate him on his declaration to become the President of Nigeria, seeking his Royal Blessings.
The Emir appealed to the minister to ensure that; “The Transport University project is completed on time.”
He said as a titleholder and Dan Amana of the Daura Emirate, all necessary support will be given for his presidential ambition, just as he prayed for his success.
