Staff members of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have welcomed the council’s return to federal government funding through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) after a two-year hiatus, saying the move has significantly improved staff morale and strengthened productivity.
Mr. Augustus Ihionu, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Allied Institutions (SSAUTHRIAL), TRCN Chapter, noted that staff faced considerable uncertainty and hardship during the defunding period, with some receiving salaries below the minimum wage or missing promotion increments.

“Through her leadership, Dr. Ronke Soyombo has revived staff confidence and restored hope in the council,” Ihionu said. “Staff morale is now high, and employees are motivated to perform their duties effectively, contributing meaningfully to the education sector.”
Dr Soyombo, reflecting on the period of defunding, highlighted the impact on staff welfare. “For nearly two years, many workers were paid below their grade or did not receive promotion increments. This situation was deeply demoralising. The restoration to government funding has renewed confidence and enthusiasm among staff, allowing us to focus on productivity and advancing education in Nigeria,” she said.

Several staff members confirmed that the return to IPPIS had removed uncertainties and boosted morale. Mrs Fumi Ode, a council staff member, said, “The restoration has renewed our hope and energy to perform our duties more diligently.”
TRCN was restored to the IPPIS platform in late January 2026, with staff receiving their February salaries and awaiting March payments.
