Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive operations across Nigeria’s North-West, achieving multiple battlefield successes, including the neutralisation of terrorists, disruption of retaliatory attacks, and recovery of weapons in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States.
The operations, conducted over the past week, signal a renewed push to dismantle armed enclaves and maintain sustained pressure on terror networks in the region, according to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army.
In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists on two separate occasions at Magonho Forest on 25 March 2026, neutralising three fighters and recovering three AK-47 rifles alongside motorcycles.

In Zamfara State, an ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari axis led to the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others retreated under pressure. Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a communication radio, mobile phones, and a motorcycle.
A retaliatory attempt by terrorists on Kaida Village the same day was swiftly repelled after attackers accused residents of collaborating with security forces. One terrorist was neutralised, and an additional rifle was recovered.
Further operations in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, forced fleeing terrorists to abandon weapons and ammunition during a clearance mission driven by actionable intelligence.
In Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa, Shanga Local Government Area, came under ambush approximately 500 metres from the target location. Reinforcements and combat enablers have since been deployed, with follow-on intelligence-led operations underway to track and neutralise the withdrawing elements.
The coordinated engagements reflect a shift towards sustained, intelligence-driven offensives designed not only to neutralise threats but also to disrupt regrouping cycles and deny armed groups operational depth across the North-West theatre.
Military authorities emphasise that the momentum of operations will be maintained, with a focus on degrading terrorist capabilities and securing vulnerable communities.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA is expected to intensify pressure across key corridors in the coming weeks as troops consolidate gains, expand area dominance, and pursue fleeing elements through coordinated ground and intelligence operations.
