In a move to revolutionize education in Nigeria, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) hosted a media parley to promote the innovative programs of the newly commissioned Digital Resource Centre (DRC).

The event which took place in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, centred around raising awareness about the newly constructed UBEC Digital Resource Centre Edifice and its facilities.

UBEC, through the Digital Resource Centre (DRC), is on a mission to transform the basic educational sector in Nigeria with the SMART SCHOOLS PROGRAM. This initiative aims to create advanced teaching and smart learning settings for educators and students, empowering them with ICT training and digital literacy.

According to Professor Bashir, the National Coordinator of the centre, “The goal is to ensure that all schools in Nigeria become ‘smart schools,’ with a strong emphasis on digital content delivery and research.

Our priority is to train school administrators, teachers, and learners with the necessary skills to thrive in this digital era.

The idea was to provide high digital quality content for users to bridge the gap between traditional and modern learning. This school is completely free with an entry age of 5 years.”

He asserted that already over 1500 teachers and educators have received various forms of training at the Digital Resource Centre in preparation for full take-off of the 37 Smart Schools built by the Federal Government through UBEC across the 36 States of the Federation and FCT.
